Irene is coming and so is her storm surge.  To find out what is going on, click on the NOAA Extra-Tropical Storm Surge website.  Find the tide gauge station nearest you and click on it - you'll see something like this:



So in Norfolk, we'll see peak surge of around 3.3 feet above Mean Higher High Water (MHHW - the high tides we see twice a month with a new and full moon) at 9pm EDT on Saturday, August 27.  This means we'll have flooding like we had with Hurricane Floyd.  To see by comparison, historic flooding has been this:
