Chincoteague, VA has a problem with sea level rise: It is causing changes that the city does not like.
Sea level rise is eating away at the beach that is the economic engine of this eastern shore resort community. The
Washington Post looked at this issue in a story and explains how the US Fish and Wildlife Service wants to move the public beach to the north and allow access only by shuttle. Resort industry folks say the shuttle won't work and that tourists will leave as a result.

Fish and Wildlife Service says they (rather you and me) cannot afford the $200,000 to $700.000 to restore the parking lot and access after every major storm.
This story follows the pattern of the stories on
North Carolina and
San Francisco in dealing with adaptation. We'll have to watch how this develops.
