As
we reported a while ago, the Tea Party in Virginia has started organizing against our work to get sea level rise adaptation plans in place. Now the
Washington Post is reporting the same thing.
Alleging a UN-led, international conspiracy is afoot to take away property rights under the guise of planning for sea level rise, this group is taking over local government meetings. While some might find this conspiracy theory laughable, the Tea Party is winning more than they are losing.
Wetlands Watch's assistant director, Shereen Hughes is quoted in this article. We are trying to organize opposition to the Tea Party activity, using fact-based advocacy, as opposed to conspiracy theories cooked up by folks with an axe to grind against local government planners and elected officials.
In these crazy times, it is a toss up how this confrontation will turn out.
