Board
President, Chris Thompson
My father insisted on family time every Saturday morning. Being
in the Navy didn’t stop him from being a fisherman
at heart, like his father and grandfather before him. So
every Saturday, we would find the sea---fishing for Pompano
on the Florida Panhandle; shelling on Guam’s reefs;
and shrimping in South Carolina creeks.
One of my fondest memories is crabbing beside my Dad,
with chicken backs and a line in the Lynnhaven, when
he was stationed in Norfolk in the early 60’s. I was
a third grader at Tarrallton Elementary. That time
was a blessing that sustains me even now, almost 50 years
later. I serve on the Wetlands Watch Board because
I want my children and grandchildren to have similar
life opportunities, that only wetlands can provide.
Chris has an M.S. in Environmental Engineering from
Clemson University. She
is Past President of the S.C. Wildlife Federation and currently
serves on
the Boards of the National Wildlife Federation and Virginia
Conservation Network.
