William McCormick, Resilience Staff

As a Norfolk native, my life has been shaped by the water around me. Fishing, crabbing, swimming and boating on the Lafayette River have grown me into the person I am today. I achieved my degree in Conservation Biology from Gordon College on the North Shore of Massachusetts. In my time as a Wildlife Director, an Environmental Educator for the Elizabeth River Project, and a member of the Norfolk Environmental Commission, I knew I wanted my work to focus on the health of the Chesapeake Bay, the Elizabeth River and the residents that depend on these vital bodies of water. 

I am deeply passionate about how coastal communities can come together and encourage native plants, wildlife, and wetland health and functionality in their own backyards. I joined Wetlands Watch to join the growing community of professionals in the environmental sector in Coastal Virginia, and begin positively impacting my community in the face of sea level rise and a warming climate. My time working with endangered shorebirds on Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge showed me that collaboration among environmental organizations is vital to the success of our common goals. Cooperation and conservation go hand in hand, especially in a city like Norfolk, on the forefront of change.
